10 great dining chairs for the contemporary home

by Cristina Colli

I love dining areas that are dynamic, fun and contemporary. Colour is a great way to change the mood of any interior, so I researched some colourful chairs that can make your dining area look cheerful and fresh.

3×2 – designed by Marco Maran for Parri.  An innovative method of construction combines two different types of polypropylene to give life to a seat that’s soft & spongy like a jelly-bean; the legs and structure are in metal, either chrome or painted, and the seat is available in lots of yummy colours.

Area51 – designed by Paolo Lucidi & Luca Pevere for Calligaris. This polypropylene chair is bright, young and cheerful, with a funky and attractive design. Light and stackable, Area51 can also be used outdoor.

Giuseppina – designed by Pocci & Dondoli for Bonaldo. This is a modern, ironic version of a traditional kitchen chair, and harmoniously combines comfortable design and modern materials. Made of  either transparent polycarbonate or opaque polyamide, this chair is stackable and suitable for outdoors.

Wien – designed by Paolo Lucidi & Luca Pevere for Calligaris.  This colourful and versatile chair features clean, essential lines and it’s a good mix of contemporary and classical design. Made of transparent polycarbonate and aluminium, Wien is available in several colours.

Diva – designed by Gino Carollo for Ciacci Kreaty. Sinuous lines and colour make this an original and dynamic chair that will certainly jazz up any interior; placing chairs of different colours around a white table is an easy way to create a fresh, playful ambience. Made of steel and polycarbonate, Diva is stackable and suitable for outdoors.

L’Eau – designed by Archirivolto for Calligaris. This neat, simple chair owes its eye-catching look to the rippled texture, clearly inspired by water. Available in several colours, L’Eau looks its best in blue; the frame is available in either chrome or satin steel finish.

Holly – designed by Marcello Ziliani for GalvanoTecnica. Versatile, fun, perfect for a young interior, this polypropylene chair is available in several colours, is stackable and can be used outdoor. I like the oval back, slightly reminiscent of the Luis XVI style.

Vanity – designed by Stefano Giovannoni for Magis. Elegant, original and visually light, Vanity combines modern materials with a soft, feminine form, enhanced by the padded upholstered seat. The polycarbonate frame can be transparent or glossy, while the seat is available in fabric or leather, in several colours.

Lizz – designed by Piero Lissoni for Kartell.  A palette of bright, vibrant colours counterbalances the essential, minimalist design of this chair, which will look great in every contemporary interior. Made of a mass-tinted thermoplastic techno-polymer, Lizz is manufactured in a single piece; the innovative material makes the chair scratch-resistant and weatherproof.

Supernatural – designed by Ross Lovegrove for Moroso. I love the organic, flowing design of this quirky chair, which for some reason makes me think of extra-terrestrial life forms. Supernatural is made with an innovative technology that combines two layers of polypropylene with fibreglass; light and stackable, this chair is available in several colours and is also suitable for outdoors.

I ((LOVE)) all of these chairs! I especially like the Moroso chairs – they look like little Morel mushrooms. Thanks for sharing.
