11 brilliant ways to light your garden

by Cristina Colli

The gorgeous, sunny weather and my recent day at Bloom garden show inspired me to research outdoor lights; here’s a selection of eleven striking lamps that caught my eye. Enjoy!

Suitable for both indoor and outdoor, Stone by Oluce looks like a real rock; decorative and evocative, I’d scatter them around plants and shrubs to create some magical ambient light.

A graceful, minimal lamp inspired by a comet, Halley by Vibia creates a comfortable, cosy mood in the garden, perfect for a romantic dinner al fresco.

Thesecondlight by Vondom is a fun, playful  lamp that can add personality to the garden; the LED version  comes with a remote control to switch the lamp on & off and change the colour of the light to suit your mood.

Designed by Constantin Wortmann for Kundalini, Spillo’s clean, simple lines and teardrop shape look  fabulous  when placed  along pathways. Spillo is available for indoor, too, and as a ceiling lamp.

Atollino by Modoluce is a colourful, versatile lamp that can also be used as occasional table or pouf; they are the perfect addition to an outdoor party, placed around  chairs and lounges.

This functional, futuristic Corona Solar Light designed by Shane Kohatsu reminds me of a stylised sunflower turning its head towards the sun; powered by a  solar cell that collects  sunlight during the daytime, the lamp  photo sensor automatically turns on the LED light at night.  Graceful and versatile, Corona  can be staked on the ground, attached to the wall, or simply placed on a table or on the floor.

LLuna, designed by Joan Gaspar for Serralunga, combines a flowerpot and a lamp with a contemporary, neat and functional design. Ideal for balconies and gardens, LLuna would look lovely arranged in lines or shapes, to define areas in outdoor spaces.

Paper lantern inspired the design of Lampion by Rotaliana, a cheerful, soft silicone lamp that screams party time; just hang them from tree branches  to create a cheerful mood in the garden.

Flora by Fontana Arte is an elegant, organic lamp inspired by the beauty of flowers and plants; the polished aluminium stem can be either staked into the ground, or fixed to a base. Flora is perfect to create a pool of light over a dining table or a conversation area in the garden.

Globo by Slide Design is a  spherical lamp available in several sizes, suitable for both outdoor and indoor. Made of polyethylene, Globo is also available as a floating lamp, in case you want an original light for your pond or swimming pool. I’d like to cluster three or four Globo lamps of several sizes  in the garden to create a focal point, or  hide a few small lamps among plants to create   random, softly glowing areas.

Reeds, designed by Klaus Begasse for Artemide, consists of seven fine luminous rods of  two different heights, fixed to a base; LED lights are integrated in the upper end of the rods in this ethereal,  poetic lamp that’s clearly inspired by reeds swaying in the wind. Several lamps can be combined together  to create a suggestive, evocative ambient light.

I would choose the stones and/or the flowerpot …

It’s hard to choose for me, but I do love the stones, too.

Saludos cordiales.

Atentamente

The garden is a place that needs much attention.
When its use is only decorative, it weakens, as the emotions of the caregiver.
The interesting thing is to add value.
A good example of this is what is described above. I will recommend the entry.
Another is to turn it into a vegetable garden.
