I don’t do well in hot climates, and when temperatures exceed 25° C I feel like a plant left to wither in the desert heat; for this reason, Ireland’s mild weather suits me well, but sometimes I do miss the sun, especially during the summer. So when it’s rainy, like today, I like to go on a virtual holiday: I surf the net for images of beautiful houses in sunny locations, and for a while I escape the dreary grey skies and bring an injection of colour and energy into my day.
This beautiful beach house caught my eyes a few days ago, when I was looking for images of white interiors; located at Yzerfontein, a fishing village north of Cape Town, the house is built entirely in wood, to blend in with the typical architecture of the area.

Large, numerous windows open on all sides of the building, providing wonderful views of the ocean, and making the rooms bright and airy. White is predominant in the interior; in the spacious, luminous dining area, blue accents reinforce the beach look, and the natural texture of wood adds warmth. The animal skin is unexpected, but works well and blends in harmoniously.

In the relaxed, informal sitting area, touches of blue and yellow, sea shells, and hurricane lamps liven up the space.

Below is a close up of the dining table, with its beautiful texture, and a view of the kitchen; I love the blue and turquoise accents distributed around the whole house – an effective way of bringing the colour of the ocean inside.

I have a thing for screens, and this one has a lot of character; its ornate carvings look like lace, and are absolutely delightful.

The master bedroom is calm and essential, a perfect background for the stunning views.

On the decked area surrounding the house, a couple of white chairs are a clear invitation to sit, relax and enjoy the scenery.

Although I don’t like sunbathing and I prefer forests to the beach, I feel drawn to this house, its relaxed, informal, and calming décor, and its rugged surroundings - I wouldn’t mind spending a couple of weeks of holiday there…

So what do you think of this beach house? These pictures transported me to the ocean for some time, and I enjoyed writing this post so much I’ve decided that, for the rest of the summer, I’ll feature a house in a different location every week, hoping that the pictures will take you, too, on a virtual holiday. Stay tuned!

LOVE! Would be the ideal vacation home – too bad it takes eons to get there from here!
I love it! That would be my dream photography studio. lol
Best Regards.
Very good pictures.
They express exactly how he feels.
Put numbers on them to react.
I like: the staircase, the screen, the terrace curve.

Hi Cristina
I am the Exec. Producer for a local TV-satellite channel in South Africa – The Home Channel. We focus on design, decor, gardening and DIY home-projects content and are currently researching a show on fantastic, beautiful and unique beach houses in South Africa. I found your beautiful article and photographs of the beach-house in Yzerfontein and I am very interested in contacting the owners about potentially including their property in our programme. Are you able to send me their contact details or pass my contact details onto them?
Thanks and have a great day
