Design inspiration: reading corners

by Cristina Colli

When I browse interior design magazines and sites I’m always on the  lookout for decorating ideas for reading corners. I love reading and I love books, and one of my dreams is to live in  a house with a library, but like most people I live in a small house, and I have to make do with a reading corner.

If I think of my ideal reading nook, I know that it’s filled with light, comfortable, cosy, quiet…a cocoon, where I can totally relax and immerse into the story…

Here are a few pictures of reading corners I like:

Compact, with clever storage for books, plenty of natural light and enough room for a cup of tea - lovely idea for a window seat!

I like the feeling of this eclectic area, with the artworks, books and the chaise longue placed against the staircase - very bohemian.

Love the flowing lines and clever design of this day bed that slides into the bookshelf - perfect for compact spaces!

Love the Egg chair in light blue on the left, and the cosy athmosphere of the space on the right - I'd like to swap chairs though...Stunning fireplace, lovely texture and shape for the coffee table, and cute teapot.

Anything that caught your eyes? Do you feel like getting your favourite book and running to your reading corner? I do :)

How lovely they all are, in their own unique way! I like the window seat, that’s something I could do in my own house.

Window seats are brilliant, aren’t they? I love them :)

You know, Cristina, I think cozy corners are just about the most important part of the home. I have mine. It’s very wierd but if I go into that corner, often I can write so much better than at my desk, so it’s a whole energy thing, you know? I repinned that chaise by the stairs because oh, I’d love to be there.

Diana, you’re spot on – it’s the energy, and how we feel in the space. I too love cosy corners, that’s were I feel more “at home”.
Thanks for stopping by my friend :)

You have a beautiful blog, I’ve kept this page open for the last two days just so that I don’t forget about it! I love these images; they’re all quite different and yet, equally good – I think it’s the clean lines that pull me in.

I’m also quite intrigued by these video blogs you do. You are certainly one to watch…
