In 2002 Dror Benshetrit founded Dror, a design company that specialises in product design, architecture and art direction; Dror’s suggestive work focuses on movement and innovation, with volumes that flip, expand, and transform. Although it’s difficult to pick a favourite among Dror’s impressive, beautifully diverse portfolio, I find the Peacock chair, the Volume.MGX lamp and the Floor Chandelier particularly inspiring.
Fluid elegance and rhythm are the words that spring into my mind when I look at the Peacock Chair, designed by Dror for Cappellini. The Peacock chair is made of three single sheets of felt and a minimal metal frame; the folds of the felt are woven tightly to form a structured yet comfortable chair, with no sewing or upholstery involved.

This eclectic chair can easily bring charm to any room, either contemporary or traditional, and is certain to add character and personality to minimalist interiors. I love the intricate folding, and all the different patterns it creates – from the linear sunburst, drawing the eye in, to the organic curves of the folds, echoed in the shape.

Made using 3D printing, Volume.MGX starts as a flat, single piece that unfolds to become an intricate square volume of interlocking squares. When lit, this deceptively simple lamp diffuses a warm glow at the centre, and cooler light towards the edges, creating an engaging pattern of light and shadow.

Floor Chandelier, designed by Dror for Swarovski, moves the chandelier from the ceiling to the floor, giving life to an unusual, magical lamp. 6,400 Swarovski crystal beads are woven together in a grid pattern; the frame, a Dror patent consisting of a self-locking hinge system with no fasteners, opens up to reveal two sweeping parabolas.

Light glimmers through the web of crystals, creating a dramatic ambiance; this striking, evocative lamp is elegant, opulent, and yet essential, and would look stunning in any interior.
