Recently I discovered the Third Annual Energizer Ultimate Photo Contest; I checked last year’s winning photos, and I found them simply amazing. Just have a look:

This year’s contest is open until June 30th and features six categories – Animals/Wildlife, Nature, People/Cultures, Travel, Weather, Action/Energy. The prize for the best shot is a National Geographic Expedition trip for two to the Greek Islands; the winning photo will also be featured in an Energizer ad in the December issue of National Geographic magazine.
All photography skill levels are encouraged to enter; one of last year’s winners was shot by a zoo employee on a regular point-and-shoot camera, so it’s definitely worth participating for a chance to win a fantastic trip, and have your photo published.
Jim Richardson, award-winning National Geographic photographer, is the judge of the Energizer Ultimate Photo Contest. On the contest website, he shares his top ten photography tips; readers can also drop him an email asking questions about photography, gear and equipment. Jim’s answers are valuable and easy to understand – definitely worth reading.
Here’s a slideshow of some finalists of last year’s contest:

Aren’t they fantastic? Choosing a favourite among so many wonderful, diverse images is hard work; they all evoke a strong emotional response and capture fascinating aspects of our beautiful world.
The Energizer Ultimate Photo Contest website also features a gallery of recent entries, updated every week. I’ll definitely check it regularly, to find inspiration and look at beauty through other people’s eyes.
So, grab your camera and start looking for beauty, and if you think you have a great shot, send it over to the contest! I definitely will.
