It’s that time of the year again…time to get ready for Christmas! I love Christmas time, and although I live in a tiny house and cannot go crazy with Christmas decorations, I always have a small tree, a wreath at the door, a pot of scented hyacinths and plenty of candles.
A few years ago I started the tradition of buying one or two new ornaments for the tree every year - beautiful ornaments, made of glass, porcelain, wood…I guess it’s my way to recreate the magic of Christmas as a little girl, when my mum, my little brother and I decorated the tree with delicate glass baubles, and then stored them away until the following year, carefully wrapped in tissue paper or old newspapers. Every year we had a few casualties, alas, but the ornaments were way more beautiful and charming than the tawdry plastic stuff that invades supermarkets and shopping malls.
Today I started browsing Etsy for some ornaments, and look how many little beauties I found!
These hearts and birds are individually hand cut and stamped from stoneware clay, and glazed with a glossy deep red glaze. I love the contrast of textures, and their cute design. From Prince Design UK.

Prince Design UK also makes these lace-imprinted clay ornaments, that have a lovely retro, romantic feel.

More white ornaments, made of bone china clay imprinted with antique lace – absolutely delightful! Find them at HodgePodgeArts’s.

Snowflakes: striking felt snowflakes from OryxandCrake Design

and hand painted porcelain snowflakes from Kimwestad.

Finally, something colourful and fun: felt baubles! From Woolicious.

Which ornament is your favourite one?

Cristina,
So lovely. I like your way of recreating your memories of Christmas past by buying 1 or 2 special ornaments each year made of glass, porcelain, wood instead of the plastic stuff. I don’t have Christmas decorations myself, but if I did I would follow your recommendations!
Hi Sandra – I try to limit my plastic consumption as much as I can, especially for these kind of things. I like Christmas, not for its religious meaning, but more as a pagan festivity that celebrates the winter solstice. It’s good to see you here
Cristina,
I do exactly the same like you. Many years now I buy every year one or two ornaments .Especially now with my children we have a lot of fun when we open the boxes to decorate our Christmas tree.We try to remember the story of each ornament. When we bought it …from where ….
Cristina I want to thank you for including my wool felted ornaments. You are very sweet♥
Have a Great and Magical Holidays !!!!
Hello Meli – I’m sure your children will remember the time spent decorating the tree with a smile on their face – like I do. Your felted ornaments are so lovely I had to include them in my list! Wishing you magical holidays, too
