During this holiday break I had time to lose myself in several good books and catch up with my favourite interior design magazines – including the lovely Heart Home Magazine.
One of my “decorating” goals for 2012 is to hang art/pictures on my almost bare walls, and I looked for ideas among the many inspiring articles of this Winter issue.
I'd like some kind of tapestry or textile art for the bedroom, like this beautiful Oriental hanging in Janice Redington's Edwardian house... and I wouldn't say no to one of those Chinese bedside cabinets
From the home of Sarah Lidwell-Durnin: Antique botanical prints and book pages pinned to a painted board - I like the fact that you can change your chosen art quickly and easily, without the need to make more holes on your walls.
I love the intensity of black & white photographical portraits, and this one is striking - again, from the home of Sarah Lidwell-Durnin
An eclectic mix of old, new, reclaimed, vintage & unusual - Sarah Ellison's quirky style gets my thumb up.
A well-placed mirror can double your lovely accessories and flower compositions - clever! This corner in Claire Morgan's beautiful period home is so inviting...I could spend hours snuggled up on that chair, reading by the fire...
Inspirational quotes dotted around the house can be refreshing and uplifting...and they can make you smile too, like this one in Sarah Lazenby's cosy office area. By the way, the texture of that wall is gorgeous.
Hanging a collection of ceramic & porcelain is a pretty idea for the dining area; this photo is actually from the Autumn isssue of Heart Home magazine, but it belongs here with all the other wall art ideas, don't you think?
My favourite feature in the magazine is Sania Pell’s article, where she shares tips for creating interesting displays for the home using vintage finds, treasures from your walks…and a bit of time. Enjoy!

When we had a Victorian house with high ceilings, we had lots of pictures on the walls, but we have far fewer in this house – the rest are wrapped in corrugated cardboard and stored in a cupboard ……. I really should get them out and decide if I really want to keep them.
I have a few artworks and photographs stored in the garage too, but I don’t really like them any more…I lived in a house with high ceilings in Italy and I loved the sense of space they gave the interior. Hard to get the rooms heated properly though!
